Studienreise Dublin 2023
Our 5 days in Dublin simply flew by! On the first day, we went on a hop-on, hop-off bus tour of the city and visited the Little Museum of Dublin, which gave an insight into everyday life in Dublin in the 20th century. In the afternoon we took a tour of Jameson Whiskey Distillery, where we learnt about how whiskey is made and how different it can taste.
On Day 2 we went to the EPIC Emigration museum, which tells the story of the 10 million Irish people who left their homeland. In the afternoon we visited the Kilmainham Gaol, where major and minor criminals were locked up and sometimes publicly executed.
On Day 3 we went to Dublinia, which describes how the Vikings lived in Dublin and shows what daily life was like in the Middle Ages. That afternoon we took a bus trip to the coastal fishing village of Howth, which we enjoyed despite the rain!
On Day 4 we took a full-day trip to Northern Ireland. In Belfast we were driven by black cab around various flashpoints of the Troubles from the Republican point of view. We even had a chance to sign the famous Peace Wall. From Belfast we progressed to the Dunluce Castle, an old ruin from which you can see mainland Scotland and Ireland. After that we walked down to the Giant's Causeway, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
On our last day in Dublin, we had some free time to shop for souvenirs, take a walk around town, visit one of the free national museums, or enjoy a coffee in one of the city's many cafés.
We had a fantastic time. Thanks again to everyone who made the trip a success!
